First published in 1881, The Six Scripts; or, The Principles of Chinese Writing was an English translation by L.

C. Hopkins (1854–1952) of Tai T'ung's Liu Shu Ku. Following Hopkins' death, a facsimile of the original translation was printed in 1954 by the Cambridge University Press, together with a memoir of the translator's life by W.

Perceval Yetts and corrections and additions to the text.

It is that version which is reissued here.
