Based on her personal experience of life in Rhodesia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and on her multi-ethnic contacts, "Zimbabwe and the New Elite" is Ruth Weiss's provocative account of the development of Zimbabwe from a white-dominated, white supremacist state to an African state with black majority rule.

Much of the material is drawn from personal interviews, and the result is an analysis of the old and new elites: the old white elite on which Zimbabwe relies; and the new black elite.

Weiss describes the nature of the relationship between these two groups, and shows how capitalism continues to flourish - even under a supposedly Marxist regime - leading us to question whether the right of admission is still reserved.
