Oceano, Hardback Book

Oceano Hardback

Hardback

Description

Oceano tells of Edward Weston's iconic dune photography, of Cecil B.

DeMille's buried film set for The Ten Commandments (1923), of the so-called 'Dunites' - artists, poets, nudists and mystics who belonged to... who lived in dune huts from the 1920s to 1940s and hosted Weston during his filming, and especially by the native Chumash.

The dune landscape in question is now dominated by ATVs, which have sparked a decades-long legal dispute with residents over air quality.

Caplan attended Air Pollution Control District hearings, met with historians, combed through archives, and worked with Northern Chumash tribal leadership to capture these stories in images and shape the future of the politically charged and ecologically threatened Oceano dunes theme.
