It helped that I made my own quick family chart to put right next to the book so I could quickly determine who was who right at the beginning----even though the author had provided a list of characters at the beginning.... My arrowed chart showed who was related to whom...no, not that I needed it for long but it helped. The book moves fast and doesn't overdo the details so you are quickly led from the crime to the happenings and then you jump in time. At this point the story is very helpful as it goes back and forth between the time periods, filling in the missing details.
