Sandy and Ella are out playing on the beach one day when they spot something sparkling by the jaggy rocks.

They run over to see what it is, and find a telescope that someone has left behind.

But how will they find the owner? Then they see a funny shape in the sand -- and realise it's a bottom print!

They run back home for their art kit and trace the print.

Then the big bottom hunt begins, as they ask each villager in turn, 'Is this your bottom?' A delightful and very funny story from Edinburgh writer and storyteller Lari Don, illustrated with great charm by up-and-coming illustrator Gabby Grant.

Review by

When Sandy and Ella find a telescope on the beach, next to the print of somebody's bottom, the two would-be detectives trace the print and begin searching everywhere for the person who fits it. Their inquiries after people's bottoms meet with mixed results, from stiff Miss Forsythe's outrage to Captain Christies's desire to 'win' the prize, but nowhere can they find the person who has the right rear end. Finally, in desperation, they approach some of the summer guests staying in their small Scottish village, and then they find, not just the answer to the puzzle, but some new friends as well...Part of Edinburgh-based Floris Books' <i>Picture Kelpies</i> line, intended to highlight picture-books with a Scottish theme, <u>The Big Bottom Hunt</u> requires a little suspension of disbelief - it would have been easier (and far more likely) to just ask if anyone had lost a telescope - but rewards the reader with an amusing tale. I imagine that children who enjoy stories incorporating bathroom humour - the <i>Captain Underpants</i> books, <u>Walter the Farting Dog</u>, <u>The Little Mole Who Went In Search of Whodunit</u> - will likewise appreciate this tale of two children who must inspect everyone's bottom, and it is to them that I would recommend it.
