I enjoyed this despite never having seen any of Alan Titchmarsh's TV programmes or read any of his books. Nobbut a lad is not really an autobiography, but a series of short vignettes about his Yorkshire childhood. It is refreshing to read about an averagely happy life with no desperate traumas. Many of the chapters prompt the reader to recall similar episodes from their own experience and review them in the light of Titchmarsh's observations.
