Paperback / softback

Description

Mistral (1830-1914) was a French writer and lexicographer of the Occitan language, a Romance language spoken in Southern France, Italy's Occitan Valleys, Monaco and Spain's Val d'Aran, which regions are sometimes known collectively as Occitania.

In 1904 he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in recognition of his ability to reflect the natural scenery and native spirit of his people and for his significant work as a Provencal philologist.

He was a founding member of Felibrige, a literary and cultural association which promoted the Occitan language.

This English translation of his memoirs was first published in 1907 and is illustrated with photographs throughout.
