Description

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 We must be careful not to call Need-love mere selfishness. We do violence to language and our understanding of it if we do not call Need-love love. We must also be cautious about calling Need-love mere selfishness.

#2 The second thing we must consider is man’s spiritual health, which is exactly proportional to his love for God. Man’s love for God is always largely a Need-love. And when we face the paradox that man is most like God when he is most unlike God, we see that they do not necessarily coincide.

#3 The fact that God is omnipotent, sovereign, and creative means that He is also blessed with happiness, strength, freedom, and fertility. These gifts do not have any necessary connection with our sanctification.

#4 The natural loves, when they are in their best condition, tend to claim a divine authority. When they are what our grandfathers called pure or noble, their voice sounds as if it were the will of God Himself.
