Discoveries in the Judaean Desert: Volume XXXV. Halakhic Texts Hardback

Edited by Joseph M. (Emeritus Professor, Emeritus Professor, Baltimore Hebrew College) Baumgarten

Part of the Discoveries in the Judaean Desert series

Hardback

Description

Religious observance in all areas of life was an issue of major importance to the Qumran community.

Several collections of laws or halakhot from Qumran bear witness to the parallel development of these laws with those that emerged within Rabbinic Judaism.

This volume includes editions of several such compositions of which Tohorot is the largest.

They provide major insight into the development of early halakha.

This collection of halakhic compositions should be studied in conjunction with the Temple Scroll, 4QMiqsat Maase ha-Torah, the Damascus Document, Serekh ha-Yahad, and sundry similar compositions.
