However, through hard work and—most importantly—through relying on God, LeRoy would work his way up over the years to become the first African American sheriff in Kansas. God would also open the door for LeRoy to travel all around the United States and abroad. 

LeRoy firmly believes that if God had not been standing by his side, he would have given up early in his life. But God was right there beside him, helping him walk through his circumstances, decisions, and the challenges he would face throughout his years.
