Description

Becoming an entrepreneur was an unexpected path for a woman in the 1960s.  Determined her destiny would not be the predicted path for most girls of her generation, the author portrays her youthful travels, harrowing legal battles and romantic surprises. A Fulbright scholar from India foretells of an interesting life with children and career. As events converge, the predictions take shape. Her route winds around a semester in Italy, breaking through a glass ceiling as art director at an advertising agency, skiing in Aspen, wandering through Mexico, working in Hawaii and enjoying group houses in the Hamptons before beginning her startup and family. â€¨

New territory was charted in 1970 with the founding of Creative Freelancers Inc., the first central agency for freelance commercial artists and writers. In 1997 it was the first agency on the web. Marriage to an older, sophisticated New York man made her a mother to two of her own children and three stepdaughters. Finding herself with a family needing support in Manhattan and great business potential, she knew she needed to learn more to make her business grow. Her path as an entrepreneur is explained and suggestions are mentored from experiences. The narrative is both an exciting treasure hunt and penetrating exploration of the challenges facing women entrepreneurs in the 1970s and today.
