At Government Expense : Five years with the Royal Signals, 1942-1946 Hardback

Hardback

Description

Norman Jackson served with the Royal Signals from 1942 to 1946, during which time he was attached to 70th and 71st Field Regiments, Royal Artillery (North Africa, Middle East and Italy) and XV Indian Corps (Java).

His memoirs, written shortly after his demobilization, include vivid descriptions of his involvement in the Tunisian battles of Sedjenane and Bou Arada, the landings at Salerno, the Volturno river crossings and the battle for Monte Camino.

The later chapters describe coming under attack from Indonesian militants while travelling with army convoys from Batavia to Bandoeng.

The memoirs have been edited by the author's nephew, and supplemented by maps, photographs, extensive notes and Rolls of Honour.
