Their post-war working life, interspersed with accounts of their travel abroad and laced with wry humour, makes up the second part of the story, and the final part takes us through their venture into farming during their retirement years.Besides being an active member of the IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations) and campaigning for air safety, throughout their lives Charles and Alison have put all their energies into social causes.

Each of their three daughters, in their diverse ways, make some contribution to the world around them, 'searching for truth and reality'.Perhaps the author's philosophical query, 'Was It For This?', is best answered in the benefits the community has gathered through the social commitments of these two individuals.
