Description

Manchester United has been home to some of the most gifted players in the history of English football: Edwards; Charlton; Best; Giggs; Cantona; Rooney. And in September 2008, the ranks were joined by prolific Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov, who in signing for a massive transfer fee of over GBP30 million became the club's most expensive player ever. After following in his father's footsteps at Pirin Blagoevgrad and CSKA Sofia Berbatov signed for Bayer Leverkusen, and after five goal-laden seasons in Germany he arrived in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur.

His first season there was an incredible success, yet despite establishing himself as a fans' favourite and scoring 23 goals, his thirst for glory saw him make a dramatic transfer deadline day move to Old Trafford where he inherited the number 9 shirt once graced by Sir Bobby Charlton.

Despite the club's success things haven't all been rosy for Berbatov at United, but an historic hat-trick against Liverpool in September 2010 endeared him to fans and he cemented his place in football history with an astonishing five-goal haul against Blackburn Rovers two months later.
