Northampton County, Virginia Liquor Licenses, 1860-1905, Paperback / softback Book

Northampton County, Virginia Liquor Licenses, 1860-1905 Paperback / softback

Paperback / softback

Description

This book contains liquor licenses granted by the Northampton County, Virginia, court between 1860 and 1905 as recorded in Order Books 44 to 53. It contains the years 1860–1865, even years 1866–1882, early railroad years 1883–1889, and the years 1890 to 1905. This is a continuation of retail and liquor licenses contained in the back of Northampton County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax Lists, 1800–1820 and Northampton County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax Lists, 1821–1850. Liquor licenses are noted through 1856 in Northampton County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax Lists, 1800–1820.
It is interesting to note the influx of licenses between 1884 and 1903 when Cape Charles Town, Cheryton, Cheapside, Oyster, and other small towns were growing on the shore. This volume also contains Peninsula Railroad and New York, Philadelphia, and Norfolk Railroad records, the referendum to move the courthouse from Eastville to Cape Charles, the construction in 1899 of a new courthouse, and the construction of new jails in 1907 and 1914. This book includes a full-name index as well as a town or location index.
