Description

In this pictorial journey, Barry Marsden takes us through the history of trams and trolleybuses in Chesterfield, from the inauguration of a horse tram service by the Chesterfield and District Tramways Company in the 1880s to the last run by the Chesterfield Corporation trolleybuses in 1938.

Barry uses a collection of often rare images to show the impact of these new forms of transportation and how the people of Chesterfield marked their passing.

Barry Marsden was born and brought up in Chesterfield and the tram and trackless systems of his native town have always exerted a deep fascination over him.
