Lysiae Orationes cum Fragmentis, Fold-out book or chart Book

Lysiae Orationes cum Fragmentis Fold-out book or chart

Edited by Christopher (Professor of Greek, University College London) Carey

Part of the Oxford Classical Texts series

Fold-out book or chart

Description

One of the canonical Athenian orators, Lysias was much admired in antiquity.

This new critical edition seeks to make the whole surviving corpus of Lysias available to the modern reader.

It combines a newly edited text of the speeches preserved in the medieval manuscript tradition (based on the most up-to-date evaluation of the transmission) with a comprehensive collection of the fragments preserved indirectly through citation in ancient sources and in papyrus discoveries in the twentieth century.

A general introduction in English provides an overview of the transmission of the text in antiquity and the Renaissance.

An appendix contains a number of speeches almost certainly not written by Lysias but occasionally attributed to him in modern times.
