One of my general reference cookbooks. In general I find this more useful than the equivalent North American books such as <i>The Joy of Cooking</i>.

This is a wonderful, classic cookbook. As well as many recipes it has notes and guidelines for how to cook all types of food. Good for people who are new to cooking, as well as those who have been cooking for many years.

A comprehensive cook book that was my culinary bible in the 1980s. Its strength and its weakness is an apparent lack of imagination. It is basic and thorough. It is a testament to its strength that I bought this 2007 reprint when I could not find my earlier edition.
