A Keto Chaffle is a high-protein ketogenic recipe made with low carb flour, eggs, and cream cheese. Grated cheese can be added to the batter as desired. The batter will be much more like cake than a pancake and may crumble if you try to flip it! A Keto Chaffle can be eaten as a breadstick replacement or as an appetizer with toppings such as bacon crumbles or cheddar cheese.

The ketogenic diet is sometimes called "keto" for short. It's a high-fat, low-carb diet that forces your body into what's called ketosis - burning fat instead of carbs for energy production. In most low-carb diets, you eat less than 50 grams of carbs per day. In keto, you eat under 25 grams of carbs daily - less if you're aiming for ketosis.

Keto is used to treat medical conditions such as epilepsy and depression, promote weight loss and performance, increase endurance and improve mental focus. It also lowers your "bad" LDL cholesterol while raising your "good" HDL cholesterol.

Now you might be saying to yourself, "that sounds pretty great!" and maybe you're right. I mean, it does sound great! It is a way to change your life and body. But the thing is, the low-carb, high-fat diet that leads to ketosis also will trim away many of the things people enjoy or seek out.. like pizza or french fries. And what happens when you pull away from those things? Well..

You eat them. A lot. And frankly... not everyone is down with that plan (who likes to make all their food from bacon and cheese?). So here we have a recipe for fun. A keto chaffle recipe made with soft cheese, flour and egg. And yes... it's not pizza or french fries, but it's good fun.

As you will probably see from the recipe below, these are not a traditional chaffle. Unlike the ones you might find at a steakhouse or cafe, these are not cooked on a flat pan like pancakes, but in a deep fryer!

The process of making them is similar to that used on regular pancakes. You begin by whisking together some eggs, cream cheese and melted butter (or ghee). The batter is then poured into the hot oil and cooked in batches until golden brown.

As you can see from the pictures, they are not perfect circles but more like small biscuits. And that's where the fun part comes in. When you take them out of the pan, you can sprinkle on your favorite toppings! And yes, they taste just as good as any chaffle you might order at a cafe or even a restaurant. They may not be the healthiest choice available, but they are damn tasty!

And of course... for these keto chaffles to be a success... it needs bacon!!! So you should make sure to add some bacon crumbles or cheddar cheese and then have fun with your toppings.

If you don't happen to have a fryer, you can also cook them on your grill or in a small skillet (like I do). Just make sure not to overcook them. You can always flip them and cook one side until golden brown while leaving the other side uncooked for that crispy bite. Or if you don't like flipping these little guys, you can even make them in batches and bake them at 350(deg)F for about 25 minutes.

The choice is yours. But either way, they are delicious and will be a hit at your next party or event. Plus they are fun to make and eat!
