The purpose was to collect information on existing artifact collections, manuscript and printed accounts, knowledge Of sites, trails, and, in fact, any thing relating to the life Of the Red Man in our Commonwealth where he had played an important role in the pre-history of the country, and over whose mountains and wide valleys he had gradually been forced westward by the advance of the white man's civilization.
