Description

The proposal that organizational leadership can be conceived as a form of performance has gained significant ground over the last decade.

However, to date, there has not been a rigorous analysis of the implications of this conception for academics studying and managers practicing leadership.

This book provides just such an analysis, placing the concept in the tradition of sociological, anthropological and cultural studies from which it has emerged and then introducing a framework which examines the performance of leadership through the dimensions of enactment, narrative and audience.

With a focus throughout on the ways in which managers can apply these ideas in their own leadership, it also explores the ways in which leadership development programmes could be shaped by notions of performance.
