DVD

Description

Swedish semi-autobiographical family drama written and directed by Ingmar Bergman.

Young siblings Fanny (Pernilla Allwin) and Alexander (Bertil Guve)'s comfortable lives change dramatically when their father dies onstage during a performance of 'Hamlet'.

Their mother Emilie (Ewa Fröling) marries puritanical Bishop Edvard (Jan Malmsjö) and the new family move into his joyless, draughty home.

The children are mistreated and Emilie becomes consumed with regrets, seeking a divorce that won't grant Edvard custody of her children.
