Arthursdale Boy - Nidderdale Girl Hardback
by Frank Pedley
Hardback
Description
These memoirs by eighty five year-old soldier and Wensleydale sheep enthusiast Frank Pedley contain a plethora of interesting and unusual life experiences.
His unofficial adoption by Victorian grandparents saved Frank from the slums of Leeds, providing him with the benefit of a Tadcaster Grammar School education, where he became more than enchanted with an attractive brunette with short pigtails and a large hockey stick, who was in the same form.
They were torn apart by a family bereavement, but met again several years later - on the eve of Frank's overseas departure to his first regiment after commissioning at Sandhurst, but Ruth was engaged...
This book describes their lengthy courtship, marriage and sometimes turbulent lives together; ending with Ruth's untimely death in 2007.
The book is far more candid than most biographies, including innermost thoughts, love-letters, political activities and financial matters.
It describes their experiences in Malaya and the Cold War; 17th century property restoration; sheep keeping and exhibitor successes at the highest level, and the horrors of the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic.
Frank refers to his involvement in Cabinet level contingency plans for national recovery from Soviet nuclear strikes against the United Kingdom, followed by recollections of his subsequent command of one of the regiments that would have been involved.
Frank's memoirs also incorporate the results of his recent family history research, reaching back over many generations to the seventeenth century, and containing many surprises.
