A great little gift for a WW2 buff or a foodie, this collection of recipes for meals during the years of war rationing is as interesting as it is fun. And the recipes themselves are surprisingly good. Human inventiveness clearly knows few bounds.

Interesting book, well illustrated (though some of the pictures are modern). One thing which is apparent is how much effort during the war went into producing imitations of existing dishes, often with results that look disgusting, rather than simply using the basic ingredients and cooking them in a straightforward way (eg the loathsome sounding eggless mayonnaise made with a baked potato!)
