Non-Linear Response to a Type of Seismic Input Motion, Paperback / softback Book

Non-Linear Response to a Type of Seismic Input Motion Paperback / softback

Part of the IAEA TECDOC Series series

Paperback / softback

Description

This publication reports the results and findings of a coordinated research project on the safety significance of near-field earthquakes in the design of nuclear power plants.

It describes the outcome of a benchmark exercise conducted by a number of institutions on the effects of low to moderate magnitude near-field earthquakes, comparing model analytical simulations with the results of a shaking test performed in France on a physical model of a conventional shear-wall structure.

The results build the basis for proposals for possible evolution of engineering practices in order to realistically take into account the effects of near-field earthquakes.
