Description

This proceedings, ""Geographic Information Systems and their Application in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering"", consists of short papers submitted by the invited attendees and written summaries of the findings of the various discussion groups at the National Science Foundation sponsored workshop held in Atlanta, Georgia, January 29-30, 1993.

Some of the issues addressed include: the requirements for a GIS from an earthquake engineering viewpoint; the need for standards for transfer of geotechnical information; and hardware/software options given the technology available.

This document provides the civil engineer with a comprehensive and up-to-date perspective of the opinions of selected researchers and practitioners from academia, government, and industry relating to GIS technology.

It reflects the same broad diversity of opinions observed during the stimulating discussion sessions and provides guidelines for others using or considering the use of the technology.
