Description

Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist, short story writer and poet who contributed to the modernist avant-garde and is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the 20th century.

This, his first novel, which traces the religious and intellectual awakening of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's fictional alter ego) was serialised in the English literary magazine The Egoist from 1914-15 at the instigation of American modernist poet Ezra Pound, and then published in book form in 1916.
