Review by booksandscones
This is definitely a "bridge" book between the first one, About A Girl, and the as-yet-unwritten third book in this series. The ending is inconclusive, to encourage the reader to buy the forthcoming Book 3. Tess showed some promise of independence & courage at the end of the first book, but here she is mostly a Charlie Brown character, hapless and hopeless. She is constantly manipulated, insulted, and jerked around by friends, family and enemies alike, and she allows herself to be, rarely fighting back. One of the worst offenders is the object of her lust/love/hate, the obnoxious Nick Miller. At 28, Tess seems unable to get her life together, always binge-eating, blackout-drinking, vomiting in public, and letting things slide because she can't make a decision, which is supposed to be endearing to the reader, but I just wasn't able to feel it with What A Girl Wants. Not sure if I could read the third book of this trilogy, when it appears.
