Description

The Last Corinthian: The Cricketing Life of MJK Smith is the story of the illustrious cricketing career of Mike Smith, one of England's most popular captains.

At Oxford he broke records by scoring centuries in each of his three Varsity matches and captained the team in his final year.

He was appointed captain of Warwickshire at the age of 23, and captain of England six years later.

Predominantly a leg-side player, he was a prolific run scorer in county cricket, and also an outstanding fielder at short-leg.

Mike played in 50 Test matches and led several successful overseas tours.

His democratic approach, modesty, integrity and unfailing good humour made him one of England's most admired captains.

Mike is England's only living double international, having played rugby for England against Wales in 1956.

The book draws on extensive interviews with Mike to tell his story, as well as eyewitness accounts and anecdotes from former team-mates and opponents, including Sir Geoffrey Boycott, Dennis Amiss and Bob Barber.
