Report on the Excavations at Usk: Medieval and Later Usk, Hardback Book

Report on the Excavations at Usk: Medieval and Later Usk Hardback

Part of the Reports on the Excavations at Usk series

Hardback

Description

This volume aims to make an original contribution to the study of small towns.

It describes the medieval and post-medieval remains excavated in the town of Usk.

Major finds include a medieval farmstead on the edge of town, the medieval defences, a 17th-century cesspit with important environmental, ceramic and glass finds and a 19th-century prison exercise yard.

The results of the excavation are supplemented by extensive documentary and topographic research to reconstruct the complex development of this Marcher town.

Usk is placed in its regional context by a major comparative and interdisciplinary study of urbanism in Gwent during the medieval and early-modern periods.
