Ron Jones describes his early childhood in Birmingham and the difficult times for his parents who nevertheless instilled into him the qualities of honesty and respect for others.Called up for the army and, after primary training, sent to Scotland, he was posted to the 'Kings Shropshire Light Infantry' regiment.

Here is described the constant harsh and difficult training for the secret objective of landing on the coast of France on June 6th 1944, D-Day, with the prime objective, along with two other regiments, of capturing Caen.The story continues on through the hard days before eventually reaching the city of Bremen in May 1945 when hostilities ended.

Returning to civilian life, Ron's subsequent engineering career took him all over the UK and to Detroit in the USA.

Back home, Ron faced family problems which were eventually overcome.

He now lives in retirement with his wife in Alvechurch, Worcestershire.
