Born in Washington, Talley was raised by his grandmother in Durham, North Carolina.

After becoming interested in fashion, Talley worked for a number of publications before landing at Vogue magazine in the early 1980s.

The film looks as Talley's life and career and features contributions from the likes of Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour.
