When gypsy boy Tinker (Smith) runs away from home he finds himself caught up in this strange town where children are being taught how to read and write.

He makes friends with some of the children and begins learning the ways of the world.

However, when a theft occurs in the town, all fingers point to the poor gypsy boy and his newfound happiness is threatened.
