Review by vombatiformes
Bakuman is an impressively in-depth manga about the process of actually creating manga from the beginning. It follows two junior high school boys who decide to do their best to become popular manga writers, and details not only the writing and drawing process but also more tedious aspects such as finding a publisher and meeting the demands of the market. It's satisfying to read, and the only real lulls concern one of the main character's affection for a girl in his class -- I found the romance-centric parts a little hard to get through, but I'm rarely interested in romance to begin with. On the other hand, seeing the boys learn how to create manga and plan on their dreams is very exciting. It's a fairly wordy manga -- there is a lot of text, and each page is cram-packed with panels. There's a lot going on, and a lot of backstory as well, but it's all very enjoyable and helps to immerse the reader into the world and really invest in the characters.I'm really excited to read the rest of the series.
