Description

Popular artist Wallace Nutting traveled throughout New England and the United States giving lectures as minister, photographer, author, furniture maker, collector and antiquarian.

Born in Rockbottom, Massachusetts, in 1861 and buried in Augusta Maine in 1941, Nutting left an amazing legacy of hand-tinted photography and published books, as well as furniture highly coveted by collectors.

For the first time, Wallace's lavishly illustrated series of "Beautiful" books on his beloved New England states, have been combed for the best examples of historic architecture, sketched and photographed by Nutting in his effort to preserve these structures for future generations.

Nutting's interior and exterior images of historic buildings, homes, and garden structures throughout the New England states are portrayed within these pages.

In addition to beautiful exterior profiles, Nutting's explorations reveal staircases, fireplaces, entryways, furnished sitting rooms, and even bedchambers as shared with him by friends throughout the country.

Important landmarks shown include popular inns, churches, and notable residences, as well as the picturesque barns and rural landscapes which have made Nutting's work such treasured keepsakes.
