Description
Film noir thriller directed by Fritz Lang and starring Edward G.
Robinson and Joan Bennett. While his wife and children are on holiday psychology professor Richard Wanley (Robinson) falls for the model in an oil painting on display in a shop window next to his club.
As he leaves the club and having already discussed his interest in the painting with his friends Wanley is surprised to meet the model from the painting, Alice Reed (Bennett), out in the street.
Alice invites him for a drink and then to her apartment to view more paintings, however, an intruder (Arthur Loft) accuses Alice of infidelity and in self-defence Wanley strikes out at the assailant and accidentally kills him.
Rather than admit to the authorities what happened they decide to try and cover up the truth of the incident but as the police gather more evidence and Wanley becomes privy to their investigation his grip on reality begins to loosen.
