As an Athenian statesman in the 6th century BC, Solon enacted legislative reforms which ended the exclusive political control of the aristocracy in Athens and began a process that culminated in the Athenian democracy of the 6th century.
As a poet, Solon is the first Athenian whose compositions have survived from antiquity.
