Description

ENIGMATIC YEARS presents an assemblage of vignettes from teenage years at Aga Khan High School, Nairobi. The author's perspective of teenage characters is an honest, authentic and real portrayal of young people living as part of a small but close-knit and successful community. Children were seldom the centre of attention but we never stopped adventuring, embracing the inner child, staying fearless, intrigued, elated, blissful, happy and positive. Kenya in 1964 had just gained independence but we were oblivious to the unpredictability of our times and possibility of our glorious days coming to the end of a road. This narrative is an attempt to capture the memories of a group of friends who shared experiences, later to be separated by the inevitable diaspora wrought by political uncertainty. Hopefully, these pages will revive pleasant memories.
