Caterpillars have twelve eyes but can only see light or dark therefore they can not see images. Caterpillars don't feel pain but can sense irritation through touch. Within two to four weeks a caterpillar will shed its skin four to six times. They change color, pattern, and texture. A caterpillar's main purpose throughout its short lived life is to eat a lot of food, it can grow almost 100 times its initial size.
