Preaching in a Context of Poverty Book

Book

Description

All South Africans are free under the new political dispensation.

But there is one enormous problem which makes it impossible for most people in this country to achieve and enjoy a good life.

This obstacle is the problem of poverty. This title gives an empirical and theological report on the situation with the aim to develop a homiletical theory of praxis which will help preachers to proclaim to gospel message meaningfully in a context of poverty.

Meaningfully implies that preaching must give Christians hope and inspiration for a vision of liberation from poverty.

The reader is taken on a journey of the author's methodological approach to theology, practical theology and preaching (Chapter 1); of understanding the poverty situation by means of an in-depth empirical analysis of the situation (Chapter 2); of discovering the interpretation of the Biblical message for our context (Chapter 3); and of engaging in the development of a diaconal church and the concrete praxis of preaching combined with development projects by the poor(Chapter 4).
