Matthews. Desperate to marry his American fiancée, Lord Tony Pym (Tomlinson) applies for leave from National Service on the basis that he intends to contest a parliamentary seat for the Conservative Party.

The seat in question has been in the Pym family for many generations but times are changing and Tony's complacency comes back to bite him when he loses the election to Labour's Mr Cleghorn (Tom Macaulay).

Under fire from his family and with his future uncertain, Tony makes the unexpected decision to stand for parliament again - this time as a socialist...
