Description

This volume presents the proceedings of the 3rd International Symposium organised in Lausanne by the harmoniques Foundation and held there in April 2006.

Musicians, musicologists, instrument makers, restorers and museum curators gathered around the 1777 vis-a-vis harpsichord-piano by Stein to exchange ideas about bowed and keyboard instruments in the age of Mozart.

The incredible richness of colours and timbres in the tone of contemporary keyboard instruments is a subject explored in the articles and demonstrated on a CD recorded on pianos built between 1773 and 1782.

The study of various portraits of Mozart at keyboard instruments is another important topic of these proceedings as well as violin-making in Vienna, the string quartet and Mozart's approach to violin playing.
