The Noble Cricketers : A Poetical and Familiar Epistle, Hardback Book

The Noble Cricketers : A Poetical and Familiar Epistle Hardback

Hardback

Description

A reprint of the rare poem first published in 1778, with the full title 'Address'd to two of the idlest Lords in his Majesty's Three Kingdoms'.

This facsimile edition is enhanced with a new introduction and notes by the eminent cricket historian and scholar John Goulstone, who has succeeded in tracing the author of this poem, not generally known.

The poem is a scathing attack aimed at the Duke of Dorset and the Earl of Tankerville, accusing them of spending too much time playing cricket while Britain was fighting the American War of Independence.
